Hey! How’s your day?

Upon reading the title, you would probably ask, “Is it really possible to experience peace in the midst of distressing circumstances?”

Well, if you would ask that question to my old self, I would definitely say NO. Thinking about what’s happening around the world right now, a lot of unexpected things happened and is happening. We are uncertain of what tomorrow will bring. Also, I’m still young and with the pandemic happening around the world, I’m afraid that my goals and dreams will not be achieved. Aside from that, there’s a lot of circumstances in our daily lives that distress us.

However, as I am now a new creation, I am always reminded of God’s promise of true inner peace that even in the trying times, overwhelming situations, and distressing circumstances, I can experience peace.

One of my favorite bible verse about peace is written in John 14:27 and it says:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

In this verse, Jesus promised to give us His peace. But, how can we experience this peace? Jesus Christ said that in Him, we may have peace. It only tells us that peace is not something that’s away from Him; it’s in Him. He is the source of peace thus, it would be useless to look for it anywhere else away from Him.

The very practical way to experience this true and lasting peace in our every day lives as what Apostle Paul said that is written in Philippians 4:6-7 is to: “6Be conscious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.”

We can’t escape from our problems, but we can experience the peace of God in the midst of them. And the way to do it is through “prayer and supplication with thanksgiving.”

When we pray, we’re turning our worries about our situation to thanking Him. Our environment may not change, but we’re changed and it’s the peace of God that guards our hearts and thoughts that saves us from anxiety.

As we are living in these trying times, remember that we can still experience God’s peace any time. And the key to experience it is through connecting to Him for it is in Him that we’ll have true inner peace.

I hope and pray that the source and the Prince of peace will remove all the worries, anxieties and fear that you’re feeling right now. May God calm the storm in you.
